The Officials of AOA

AHHHHH!! Always a huge topic of discussion in any sport in this region. The referees are pitiful! That is all that anyone ever says about our local officiating crews. There are several ways to "remedy" the situation of bad refs and here they are.

1. Black Ball the bad ones. If every school did this, then
they would be "gone". But who would do the officiating then?
Nobody would be left in the AOA.

2. Everyone who complains about the officiating needs to get
out there and learn and start officiating. (This has been
suggested many times).

3. And, this is the hardest one to do, get the high school
principals and athletic directors off the governing board
of the association. This is the problem. Get those people
of the governing board and then the games won't be
officiated so terribly, We could then "weed" out the bad
ones and give the decent ones some good training and
therefore, make them better.

I choose to pick number 3, because that IS THE PROBLEM. Too many "favors" are given to the "bad" officials. The AOA is the only officials association in the state who is governed entirely by the principals and athletic directors. Sure, we have commisioners, but they have no "real" say as to who can officiate.

I know for a fact that some officials in the association are granted "favors". I see it all the time, especially during baseball/softball season. You will not see any consistancy at all from one game to the next, unless you get the same officials all the time, until you, the fans, help our association get the principals and athletic directors off the governing board.

There is another that I like best but cant find a link for it. Football players (on defense) are in a huddle and one of them says "Alright, someone needs to make a big play. I'll tell you what. How about people just do their jobs properly? I dont have the time or ability to ref, I dont ref wish some of the refs in the AOA would do the same.

Where did you get your information regarding athletic directors and principals having such a sayso in who officiates our athletic contests? I know firsthand this not to be true. Officials are assigned by the (AOA) league commissioners. Don't know that athletic directors and principals get much sayso in choosing who officiates their games. They can certainly request certain officials not to officiate if there's some type of conflict or if they foresee a conflict. Am looking forward to your reply. Thanks!

If anyone would know, centennialdawg would. I thought everyone knew that? Let's just say I respect what he has to say about the matter.

No disrespect to centennialdawg or anyone else but would like to know his credentials/sources in stating that the principals and athletic directors have a great influence in determining who officiates. Like I said earlier, I know personally that in my case (it may be different at other schools where the other ADs or principals or even coaches are more persistent in requesting and getting the officials that they want)that the AOA League Commissioner assigns the officials and these officials typically officiate the contests. If a conflict has occured with a particular official in the past then the AD can request that the official not be assigned. Look forward to a response to this. Thanks!

by the way you are chompin at the bit to find out where dawg is getting his info. One familiar with the AOA would think that you are a Johnny boy...... First of all, its none of your business where he gets his info. Second, why are you so concerned about this????????
Could it be that someone other than an offical is starting to see that the AOA is run by the principles and the Altizer monopoly? Could it be that a movement other than by officals is at hand and certian officals are squirming?
HMMMMM. I wonder...........
